Alex Charman // 23
As soon as she could move, Alex Charman has been involved in the dazzling world of circus, featuring in countless national and international performances and gigs. These shows include Up In Smoke (2006), Circus Birthday Party (2007), Connected (2007 & 2008), Grandmas Dream Garden (2009) and more recently Young Stars Circus (2014) performed in Singapore, Circus of the Seven Seas (2014 & 2016), Try Again (2016), Mortal Sins (2016), High Tea with Burl Esque (2017) and Hoopla International (2017) in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Whilst her talents are many, her focuses lie primarily in aerial silks, duo acrobatics and hula hoop. A fact we think you all should know about Alex: in comparison to her body, she has tiny feet and long legs.
Zoe Charman //20
Zoe Charman has dedicated a number of years to the circus arts, and has been involved in an incredulous number of performances, gigs and workshops throughout her life. As a young performer, Zoe was featured in various shows such as Music Box Circus (2005 & 2006), Circus Birthday Party (2007), which premiered on the Festival Theatre stage, Lazy Circus (2008) and Grandma’s Dream Garden (2009). Since her early debut, she has improved her craft and has been showing off her new skills in more recent shows such as Circus of the Seven Seas (2014), Young Stars Circus (2014), Trapped (2015 & 2016), SPACED OUT (2016) and High Tea with Burl Esque (2017). Hula-hoop, acrobatics and manipulation are the main focus of Zoe's circus skills, and she has been dancing from the moment she could walk. Zoe’s first time travelling overseas was in 2014, where she performed in Singapore with the Young Star Circus.
Tasma Jefferies //23
Tasma Jefferies has performed in the circus arts for a number of years and has been a valued performer in countless shows including Music Box Circus (2005 & 2006), Circus Birthday Party (2007), Lazy Circus (2008) and Grandma’s Dream Garden (2009). More recently, she has been involved in Trapped (2016), SPACED OUT (2016), Cirque Nocturne (2016 & 2017) and High Tea with Burl Esque (2017). Her skills are focused predominantly in hat manipulation and acrobatics. Her first circus performance was in 2005, where she was a doll and monkey in a barrel!
Sam Matthewman //22
A natural born circus enthusiast, Sam Matthewman has been involved in the circus arts for over 10 years, refining and improving his talents in various local and international circus performances. Some of these include Young Stars Circus (2014) performed in Singapore, Circus of the Seven Seas (2014 & 2016), Trapped (2016), Try Again (2016 & 2017), High Tea with Burl Esque (2017) and Hoopla International (2017) in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Whilst Sam is willing to take up any challenge, his skills are focused predominantly in poi, duo acrobatics and aerial silks. A note of caution: when we say "any challenge", we mean any challenge. Sam broke his first bone ever doing a backflip over an exercise ball.
Tommy Matthewman //25
Tommy Matthewman began his journey as a circus artist when he was 13 years young, and since then has performed on national and international stages throughout his career. These performances include Circus of the Seven Seas (2014), Young Star Circus (2014), Non-Stop (2017) and High Tea with Burl Esque (2017). A diverse performer, Tommy has also been involved in various professional performances from Gravity and Other Myths and Mad House Circus. Tommy is particularly passionate about adagio, teeter-board, group acrobatics and wall-running. Currently, Tommy can do seventeen consecutive backsaults- we get dizzy just watching!
Maggie Rusak //21
From the young age of four, Maggie Rusak has been passionately involved in the circus arts. A Cirkidz Performance Troupe graduate, Maggie has been a part of various performances, including Cirkidz Regional Tours (2011-2016), Nest (2015), Cirque Nocturne (2017) and A Show Called Steven (2017). In addition, Maggie has featured in major public events such as the Moon Lantern Festival Opening, the Adelaide Fringe Parade, the Adelaide Festival Opening, the Adelaide Christmas Pageant and the Tour Down Under. Whilst Maggie is capable across multiple aspects of circus, her passions are manifested in juggling, group acrobatics and teeter-board. One of Maggie’s stage debuts was in an Avant Gard circus performance where, as an eleven-year-old, she sat on a white chair and stared blankly at the audience for three minutes.
